U.S. Sen Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, has been charged with failing to file reports on $250,000 in alleged corporate gifts. He has pushed to have his trial completed before the Nov. 4, 2008, elections.
This market will cash out at $100 if Stevens is found guilty of a felony before the polls open. It will cash out at $0 if that doesn’t happen, regardless of the reason, which could include acquittal, trial delays or dismissal of the charges.
If Stevens is found guilty by a jury, and the verdict is overturned, no matter how quickly, that still counts as a conviction. It also would count as a conviction if Stevens pleads guilty or nolo contendere to a felony.
A conviction or plea deal on a misdemeanor would not count as satisfaction of the market’s terms.
Trading may be suspended as news developments warrant prior to the closing of the market.
