It’s not me, it’s everyone else. Unless the league changes the rules, only 8 teams can make the playoffs!

Just pullin’ your chain! You’re taking advantage of all those early fans who bet on their team, regardless of the overall picture. Good for you, I say! You have managed to get the total down close to 800. On average, you’ll probably make money, but time will tell about each position!

Also, I note that your cleverness was rewarded with a nice hit to your net worth. Go figure (or don’t, really!). Because you took several short positions in the same market, they are all marked against you at their current liquidation value, regardless of the illogic of that. The old accounting system suffered a bit from this, since it counted multiple shorts at their individual market values, even when not all of them could be losses. Still, it was closer to reality than is the current system…

I know. The Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners could all win playoff spots, and I would still only lose $44,500.

Eight teams make the playoffs each year, 6 division winners and one wild card from each league.
As teams are eliminated from the playoffs (according to the MLB website), they will be closed out.
