It’s getting interesting. Will the Yankees stay true to their word and drop out of bidding? Is Boras bluffing – A-Rod still has 10 days?
NY Times: Alex Rodriguez Opts Out of Contract With Yankees

I read that Andy Pettitte said that he’d either play for the Yankees or nobody next year.
Abreu stays.

Pettitte has declined his option, but it appears he’s still considering staying with the Yankees.
Yankees to offer arbitration to A-Rod
Pitchers and catchers report to Yankess spring training tomorrow.
With Roger Clemens testifying before Congress today with a reasonable chance of facing prejury charges but, in any event, spending 100% of his time working to save his reputation, with the Yankees having previously stated they were finished with Roger and with Yankee pitcher Andy Pettite apparently undermining Roger’s testimony, it seems safe to conclude Roger isn’t coming back to the Yankees.
Rumours and threats have several veteran Yankees leaving the club during the off-season. Who will actually leave the team? If there is doubt about whether somebody has left (i.e., Roger Clemens “retires” again), if they aren’t in spring training, they’ve left for purposes of this market. Markets will be closed as decisions are announced, contracts signed, etc.
The Boss threatened to fire Joe Torre if the Yankees didn’t beat Cleveland. They didn’t.
