Two words: China sell-off.

Is August traditionally a high month for the Dow? Just curious why it’s leading by such a big margin.

mvguy   •   Mon Aug 31 2009 at 02:56pm PDT

I was wondering the same thing.

wstritt   •   Mon Aug 31 2009 at 04:49pm PDT

September is actually worst month for stocks

I had always heard the story that the bears went on vacation in August so only optimists were trading driving up prices. When the bears and/or shorts returned in September, markets fell with question being whether Oct-Dec could recover September losses.

mvguy   •   Tue Sep 01 2009 at 07:24am PDT

That was an interesting article.

McLovin   •   Thu Jul 23 2009 at 05:47pm PDT

Darn, was rooting hard for January.

AxmxZ   •   Thu Jul 23 2009 at 05:49pm PDT

Why do you hate America, McLovin? Tsk.

AxmxZ   •   Thu Jul 23 2009 at 02:10pm PDT

Finally, January can be closed out.

Finally.

Click on possible answers in the right column to hide/show them on the graph. You can also hover over any line to see current value at that time. Graphs will begin to show data one hour after the question has been open. The Historical Trend chart does not display all prices ever reached since it is only updated at discrete time intervals, (hourly/daily/weekly, depending on the date range).
