US State Department delays Keystone pipeline decision.

The Obama administration has delayed a decision on TransCanada Corp’s rerouted Keystone XL oil pipeline until after March, even though Nebraska’s governor on Tuesday approved a plan for part of the line running through his state.

“We don’t anticipate being able to conclude our own review before the end of the first quarter of this year,” said Victoria Nuland, a spokeswoman at the State Department, which had previously said it would make a decision by that deadline.

She said the department would take into consideration approval of the line by Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman.

Interest in The fate of the $5.3 billion pipeline that would link Canada’s oil sands to refineries in Texas has been heightened after President Barack Obama promised to fight climate change.

President Obama announced Wednesday that he will deny a permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, blaming Republicans for imposing a “rushed and arbitrary deadline” which he said did not give officials enough time… For three years, the State Department has been reviewing the initial proposal to run a pipeline from Canada down to Texas through a sensitive Nebraska aquifer — authority it has because of the transnational path the route takes. The pipeline had been through several other federal, state and local approvals, but the department backed away from signing off on the plan last year after environmentalists complained.

O my gosh… What the devil is going on in the Washington mind set and their decision process? Canadian oil will now go to China, and probably be sold back to us, for a profit. Meanwhile the gas prices in the states continue to climb once again. Dose not make any sense to me. Not a rational decision to me…

SneakyPete   •   Thu Jan 12 2012 at 05:17pm PST

With jobs and the economy being priority number one, in the coming election, I believe President Obama will give the Keystone Pipeline his presidential approval. The Environmentalists, will lose out to the unions, this go round.

Many thanks to the Admins for refunding the “Never” option!

ecotax   •   Wed Jan 18 2012 at 01:48pm PST

Huh? I understand the problem with the overlapping options, but I could just buy some “Never” shares.
What’s going on? Was the option re-enabled for some reason?

wstritt   •   Wed Jan 18 2012 at 02:04pm PST

Looks like “never” was defined (or redefined) as after June 30, 2013 making after Feb 2013 equal to March through June 2013. Don’t really know history since I hadn’t traded in market before today.

MFWinAlford   •   Thu Jan 19 2012 at 12:14pm PST

Yes, the “Never” option was refunded. Not sure what happened.

SneakyPete   •   Tue Jan 03 2012 at 12:33pm PST

The President has a hard decision to make. Go with the unions for the jobs or with the enviromentalist to save the environment. Which way will he go?

MFWinAlford   •   Fri Dec 16 2011 at 12:17pm PST

When will “Never” pay out? That is “After February 2013” isn’t it? If so, it seems like you might want to drop (refund) the “Never” option…

ChloeBurns   •   Tue Jan 03 2012 at 11:25am PST

I have to agree. “Never” and “After February 2013” are duplicates. Please refund the “Never” stock.

SneakyPete   •   Tue Jan 03 2012 at 12:31pm PST

I also agree that both are duplicates.
