Results: remember, this only reflects positions that were open when the teams were cashed out. I’m sure a lot of people (including me) made money along the way with trades that were cashed out for a profit before the results were official.

I had a bad time. Stupid Orioles. How is it fair that the Orioles get to be good again before the Jays?

wstritt   •   Wed Sep 26 2012 at 08:39pm PDT

Detroit seems to have slightly easier schedule down the stretch, particularly if Chicago doesn’t come back against Cleveland tonight.

MFWinAlford   •   Sun Aug 26 2012 at 05:16am PDT

The Astros were eliminated from winning their division. They still have a shot at becoming a wildcard team. In order to do that, without considering what other teams do, they must win at least 28 of their remaining 35 games. ;)

wstritt   •   Sun Aug 26 2012 at 06:41am PDT

Well, if Roger comes back, certainly would improve their chances". ;)

MFWinAlford   •   Sun Aug 26 2012 at 06:05pm PDT

Sadly, and totally unexpectedly, the Astros lost to your Mets tonight. As of this writing, the Braves are ahead of the Giants. If that holds up, the Astros will need to win 31 of their last 34 games to stay in the hunt for the wild card, and the Mets will need to win 25 of their last 34. The Mets are on track to win 75 games, but almost certainly not 70 before September 16. http://home.inklingmarkets.com/markets/43854

MFWinAlford   •   Fri Aug 31 2012 at 08:24pm PDT

Roger can’t help them now. Houston has won the 2012 Dubious Distinction Award for being the first team to be eliminated from playoff consideration.

ChloeBurns   •   Thu Aug 16 2012 at 07:00am PDT

An interesting side effect of the new playoff structure — this market is now less susceptible to arbitrage. It used to be that the value of any one division must total between 100 and 200. If it was less, you bought equal shares of every team in the division (with the possible exception of the Houston Astros). If it was more, you sold equal shares (again, with the possible exception of the Texas Rangers). Now the value must exceed 300 to sell and this is not very likely.

Garth Brewer   •   Thu Apr 05 2012 at 08:11am PDT

Just heard this on a sports network. There is going to be 10 playoff teams in 2012.

Garth, thanks for the heads-up — I had obviously missed the news of this change! I will update the “Background Information” accordingly.
