I would have to agree… not this month.

This one is starting to perplex me. School starts August 26th. There seems to be no movement on a contract BUT the Union nor the school district appear to not have started preparing the community for a strike or even hint of one.

No way either side would want to antagonize the commumity at this late time. I remember in 2012 there was quite a bit of lead time and public knowledge of the strike. People had a bit of time to prepare.

I cannot see either side wanting to face the wrath of the public.

Either a contract will be signed very soon or teachers will work without one and ramp up the strike threats while school is in session. THAT is a perscription for chaos, which the district does not need.

Anyone have any other info or analysis to pass on?

Thanks!

From what I know of the situation (I am a teacher, but not in Illinois) this editorial best reflects the overall situation and discusses the important nuances that took place last week.

I believe the union will make a deal. EVERYONE in Chicago knows CPS has no money. I dont believe a teacher strike will receive the support it got back in 2012.

My friends in the know (was also reported by the Chicago Tribune) tell me they were “this close” to shaking on a deal earlier this week. Reps in the schools were even doing the phone tree to begin spreading the news. Now it looks as if there is another stalemate regarding a new ideas for teacher evaluations. I have low hopes for a new contract anytime before August 30.

News reports of a deal or the actual vote and signing by each side?

kmcmorr (ADMIN)   •   Wed Jun 10 2015 at 01:46pm PDT

Great Question. This market will cash out when there is a news reports of a deal, confirmed by both sides of the table. At that point the teachers need to vote on the contract, which typically takes a few days to complete, and then assuming the vote passes, each side would sign the contract.
