Following the normalization of relations with Cuba, the US will formally appoint an Ambassador to Cuba. Currently Jeffery DeLaurentis is the senior US representative at the US mission in Havanna. This position is not considered a full Ambassadorship.
Ambassadors can come from many different walks of life. For the purposes of this question we will consider DeLaurentis, and other people WITHIN or OUTSIDE of the US State Departments Professional Diplomatic Corps (meaning Senior career State Deparment personnel).
Answer Choice #1 includes only DeLaurentis (if DeLaurentis leaves this particular position I will consider his replacement as Answer Choice #1).
Answer Choice #2 EXCLUDES DeLaurentis but includes ALL OTHER State Department personnel, current or former US Ambassador(s) to the United Nations, current or former US Ambassadors to other countries (whether or not they came from the State Department or were political employees).
Answer Choice #3 is basically all others, from the Public Sector (current or former elected representatives, current or former Cabinet officials, academic, etc) or the Private Sector (academic, profit, non-profit or retired from either).
US Ambassadors are appointed by the President but the MUST BE confirmed by a majority vote in the US Senate.
The question will close upon the confirmation vote by the Senate.
