@onedave seems like it might be useful to allow these types of questions to have a longer time period at the beginning, followed by shorter rolling intervals. E.g. before Aug 2017, then maybe five individual months, then Jan 2018 or later, but use the rolling feature once Aug 2017 arrives.

Another option would be to make the time buckets longer—3 or 6 months—so that the answers would stretch into a meaningful time range without having 20+ of them.

I like your first suggestion better for how to deal with this question, but only if we have an educated guess as to when it might cash out at 100. In my opinion, the earliest a question will cash out at 100 is August 2017. So, I would like to set the first bucket as “before August 2017” with one-month buckets after that.

Another suggestion is to “manually” set up the buckets. Perhaps allow us to set up M-month buckets for the first N months and then shorter buckets for the duration of the question until the “or later” bucket.
