The House will not try to ovdride theObama veto. Will the Senate even try?

BeteNoire   •   Tue Nov 03 2015 at 10:34am PST

Unlike the House, time is always precious in the Senate. For that reason, I doubt the Senate will take it up. Also, doesn’t the budget agreement just signed make this a non-issue?

To RSWANSEN: This aticle below is timely and somewhat explains the situation you refer to. It is one of the 8(?) separte appropriations bills that need to be passed in addition to the over all budeget. Stange concept.

To Sneaky Pete: I believe the body that first initiated a bill (in this case the House) gets first crack at over-riding a veto. This article also explains that it is not going to happen so the Senate will not even get a shot at it. They are basically starting over with a new, modified Defense Bill.

I agree on the House getting first chance to override the veto. Will wait to cash-out the market to see if the Senate even tries to do a override vote for a symbolic show of disapproval of the veto.

Do you want to reopen it for trading?

Done……

GeneH   •   Tue Nov 03 2015 at 12:04pm PST

I think that is wise. Also, some other legislation might pop up and be veto worthy between now and the close of the question.

What do people think is going to both pass Congress, be vetoed, and successfully over ridden in the next 2 months?

SneakyPete   •   Thu Oct 22 2015 at 11:23am PDT

Defense Budget Bill I believe? Reps plus Dems states having military intallations.

BeteNoire   •   Thu Oct 22 2015 at 11:31am PDT

Still, do you think enough Dems will vote to override a veto?

SneakyPete   •   Thu Oct 22 2015 at 11:35am PDT

Yup I do. Just a gut feeling and going against the Inkling mentality.

BeteNoire   •   Mon Oct 26 2015 at 09:40am PDT

Do you think the Senate will vote before it passes the House?

SneakyPete   •   Mon Oct 26 2015 at 11:19am PDT

Don’t know if they will or not. Possible BUT???

BeteNoire   •   Mon Oct 26 2015 at 12:59pm PDT

Well, it’s an interesting political dilemma for Senate Dems.

SneakyPete   •   Mon Oct 26 2015 at 06:12pm PDT

You have that right.

BeteNoire   •   Thu Oct 22 2015 at 07:49pm PDT

well, he vetoed it. good question how many of 70 will stick. since it’s unlikely to override a veto in hoI have yet to send something in yet but I will this weekuse, will they even take it up in senate. what do you think the strategy will be?

BeteNoire   •   Thu Oct 22 2015 at 07:51pm PDT

what? unlikely to pass house. will the senate take it up? what do you think the strategy will be?

GeneH   •   Thu Oct 22 2015 at 12:16pm PDT

SneakyPete   •   Thu Oct 22 2015 at 01:07pm PDT

Just looking at the initial passage of the Defense budget (Senate 71 – 26 & House 300 – 119) it looks like an override seems posible.

GeneH   •   Thu Oct 22 2015 at 02:03pm PDT

Good point. Lots of things have to play out in the next couple of weeks. A great time to be interested in politics. :)

BeteNoire   •   Thu Oct 22 2015 at 11:06am PDT

I guess that is more than both.

GeneH   •   Thu Oct 22 2015 at 11:16am PDT

I don’t see anything. The defense bill he is going to veto will not be over-ridden. I was surprised by the spike in price too.
